RUPANKAR – with his band of musicians from Kolkata

Our main attraction for Saturday is one of the most popular contemporary singers, Rupankar – heartthrob of the young, loved by all. A remarkably versatile singer, he received training in various genres from stalwarts in Bengal: Shri Sukumar Mitra for classical, and Shri Jatileshwar Mukhopadhyay for modern songs. He has innumerable hit songs as a singer and composer, and is probably the busiest artiste today in Kolkata – stage performances all over the world, albums, movies, title songs of serials, and ad-jingles. A recent feather on his cap: being adjudged best male playback singer at the 61st National Film Awards, for his rendition of “E tumi kemon tumi” from film Jatishwar. www.rupankar.com

Nrityalina Center for Performing Arts

Nrityalina Center for Performing Arts (www.nrityalina.com) is a premier performing arts center based out of Jersey City, dedicated to promoting Indian culture in the form of Dance, Music and Drama. On Saturday Oct 4th, Nrityalina Center will present a collection of dance recitals based on elements from Sutradhari Natyam, Rabindrik style, Bengali Folk, Bharatnatyam and Kathak. Director: Paromita Chakravarty.

Bong Chronicle

Bong Chronicle is a unique home production by GSPC for Saturday Oct 4. It combines dance, music, live singing and acting to depict the journey of its protagonists though childhood and youth. The scene opens with two long-lost friends walking down the memory lane growing up in Bengal. As the scene unfolds, the “adda” continues with rich cultural flavors spanning generations.

Songs by Debarati Mukherhee

Our Sunday cultural event will start with a few songs by Debarati Mukherjee from Massachusetts. Having earned a B.Mus degree in both Classical & Rabindrasangeet, Debarati is also adept at Adhunik & Agomoni songs, Hindi film-songs and Ghazals. Besides being a singer, she is a dancer and a harmonica player, and has performed at various places in India and abroad.

Alor-Pothojatri

On popular demand, our stage production earlier this summer at Monroe, NJ, is returning home. Dance, recitation and live-singing based on a theme of youth and inspiration. Sunday Oct 5

GaanFun

At GSPC, we truly believe that attendees need to get a “ghoroa” flavor and be able to participate in every aspect of the pujo, like a “padaar pujo” back home.

This year we extended this idea to have audience participation for the Sunday cultural show, with GaanFun. As the name indicates, it’s a fun-filled musical game show. Participants can pre-register for the event, get their knowledge of Bengali & Hindi songs tested in a very informal setting, and win handsome prizes. See poster on home page for pre-registration

RUPANKAR – with his band of musicians from Kolkata

Our main attraction for Saturday is one of the most popular contemporary singers, Rupankar – heartthrob of the young, loved by all. A remarkably versatile singer, he received training in various genres from stalwarts like Shri Sukumar Mitra for classical, and Shri Jatileshwar Mukhopadhyay for modern songs.

BongChronicle

Bong Chronicle is a unique home production by GSPC for Saturday Oct 4. It combines dance, music, live singing and acting to depict the journey of its protagonists though childhood and youth. The scene opens with two long-lost friends walking down the memory lane growing up in Bengal. As the scene unfolds, the “adda” continues with rich cultural flavors spanning generations.

Songs by Debarati Mukherjee

Our Sunday cultural event will start with a few songs by Debarati Mukherjee from Massachusetts. Having earned B.Mus degrees in Classical & Rabindrasangeet, Debarati is also adept at Adhunik & Agomoni songs, Hindi film-songs and Ghazals.

Sunday, Oct 5

GaanFun

At GSPC, we truly believe that attendees need to get a “ghoroa” flavor and be able to participate in every aspect of the pujo, like a “padaar pujo” back home. This year we extended this idea to have audience participation for the Sunday cultural show, with GaanFun. Please see poster below and pre-register for participating in this fun event.
